Level 3: Intermediate

In this level we begin to look at the board from a wider view. Players should be seeing how tactics fit together and how they can use the patterns and ideas they learned in previous levels to set up attacks. Students should be able to recognize mistakes, and understand how to take advantage of them without putting their own pieces at risk. They should also feel confident in their play and have the ability to make successful plans. We will also begin to spend time during classes at this level to analyze and learn from students own games.
Topics in this level include:
Understanding Common Openings
Advanced Tactics
Combinations
Game Analysis
